The mission of the Johnstown Police Department is to serve and protect the people and property within the corporate limits of the City of Johnstown. We will enforce all state and local laws in a professional manner with courtesy and fairness. The Johnstown Police Department serves a population of approximately 8,743and covers approximately 4.9 square miles of territory. The department is comprised of a Chief of Police, a Lieutenant, 22 sworn officers, 1 secretary and an Animal Control Officer. The department averages over 9,000 calls for service each year. We consider it our duty and privilege, not only to protect our citizens from the criminals but also to protect and defend the rights guaranteed under our structure of government. |
- Parking Ban is in effect starting December 1st and runs through April 1st. All vehicles need to be off all city streets from Midnight – 6AM. Please see City Clerk for off street parking permits.
- Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and to keep expensive and/or personal items out of view.
- Keep your residence secure when not home or when home alone (women, children, elderly).
- Motorists are reminded to be vigilant when around schools and playgrounds.
Patrol Division
The Johnstown Police Department Patrol Division consists four
sergeants and twenty patrol officers. These officers are deployed
through two mobile patrol zones, one walking post and one traffic
patrol, 24 hours a day.

Investigative Division
The primary function of the investigative division is to assist the patrol division and other law enforcement agencies in conducting criminal investigations. They are solely responsible for crime scene/evidence and photographic forensic services. They also conduct undercover operations as required.
